Fong Stated in a Video Post on X.

According to Fong, the photo was provided by a man known as G Lock, a former inmate who was incarcerated with Bankman-Fried. “These photos were taken on December 17, 2023, as inmates are only permitted to take photos on Christmas and Father’s Day,” Fong stated in a video post on X.

Fong has taken care to obscure the faces of other inmates for privacy reasons, but Bankman-Fried’s apparent state is evident. Fong noted, “He’s obviously lost some weight, and I’ve heard that he’s not showering very much. He’s not as clean-shaven as he used to be. But he’s obviously going through a lot right now.”

Bankman-Fried has been detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since August.

Bankman-Fried’s representative declined to comment on Fong’s photo when approached by BI. Bankman-Fried has been detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since August. Initially placed under house arrest, he was remanded after US District Judge Lewis Kaplan expressed concern over potential witness tampering.

The Metropolitan

The Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn is known for its substandard living conditions, with one former warden describing it as “the most troubled facility in the Bureau of Prisons.” Bankman-Fried faces additional challenges in prison, including the absence of internet access, as inmates are only allowed radios or MP3 players to pass the time.

The photo shared by Fong offers a glimpse into the reality of Bankman-Fried’s life behind bars, painting a picture of hardship and adjustment as he navigates his legal troubles.
