Struggles with Mental Health

In 2008, Jake was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after exhibiting signs of living in alternate realities, seeing people with “black eyes,” and conversing with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart. Despite his diagnosis, Jake refused medication and therapy, believing he wasn’t sick.

Legal Troubles and Rehabilitation

In 2015, Jake’s life took a turn when he engaged law enforcement in a multi-county pursuit that ended in a crash. Lisa tried to intervene and have him admitted to a medical facility, but due to a lack of beds, he spent 10 months in jail. The passing of Jake’s sister in 2018 further exacerbated his condition.

A Glimmer of Hope

In March 2023, Jake experienced a severe psychotic break, leading to his admission to a mental health rehabilitation facility. Over the past 10 months, his condition has significantly improved, allowing him to enjoy activities like watching movies, a luxury he couldn’t afford off medication.

Reconnecting with Star Wars

Contrary to popular belief, Jake remains a devoted Star Wars fan. He recently indulged in the Disney+ series ‘Ahsoka’ and received an action figure of the titular character for his birthday, showcasing his continued love for the franchise.

Dispelling Misconceptions

Lisa clarified that Jake’s mental health struggles were not triggered by the backlash ‘The Phantom Menace’ received. Despite the challenges, Jake’s love for Star Wars endures, bringing him joy amidst his battles with mental illness.
